Elise Silva, a PhD candidate in Critical & Cultural Studies (Composition) has been chosen as a Mellon Fellow for AY 2022–23.

Eli Boonin-Vail, a PhD candidate in Film & Media Studies, has published a good deal over the past year. "Hello Public! Jackie Ormes in the Print Culture of the Pittsburgh Courier ” is forthcoming in the edited collection Desegregating Comics (Rutgers University Press, 2022); “In the Slammer: Acoustemologies of the Carceral in the Prisons of Classical Hollywood” is forthcoming in Music, Sound, and the Moving Image; “The System of the Genius: The French New Wave's politique des producteurs appeared this spring in French Screen Studies; and “Visible Stripes: Reenacting Trauma in Carceral Aesthetics” can be found Film Criticism 45.1 (2021). He presented his work at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Annual Conference this past April and at the San Francisco State University Graduate Conference this past February. Boonin-Vail was a runner up for the Claudia Gorbman Award (Music and Sound Scholarly Interest Group, Society for Cinema and Media Studies).

Senior Lecturers Dana Och and Ellen McGrath Smith were two of three 2022 recipients of the David and Tina Bellet Award for Teaching Excellence sponsored by the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.
